Kate Allatt is a extraordinary woman who’s life experience touches the lives of every person she meets. Her drive, passion and determination to overcome all odds placed against her is truly inspirational and motivational, on so many levels. We had the pleasure of having Kate speak at our Global Sales Meeting in January. Kate’s message of strength and perseverance, aspiring to achieve her own goals and not allowing others to set limits for her, is a message that should be heard and followed by all. As individuals, we all face our own challenges. It is our mindset and how we approach these challenges, to keep moving forward, that makes us remarkable in our own way. Thank you Kate Allatt for sharing your story and being a true example of remarkable inspiration. Beth A. Joy-Dougherty, Global Director Marketing and Communications, Derma Sciences

Every so often, someone or something happens that changes the way you look at your work and/or personal life. Such an experience happened to me when I attended a workshop with Dr Kate Allatt, and has had a huge impact on the way I view myself. Before, I liked to think that I understood and empathised with patients. However listening to Kate’s story told straight from the heart and the subsequent Group Challenges and discussions, firstly questioned,  then secondly changed the way I could improve and add value to the patients journey. I noted that it was those little things that really count, personalising care (as Kate said someone who “Gets You”), giving realistic hope, shooting for the stars and acts of kindness. Most of all Kate’s strength of character, never giving up and re-living that difficult time in the workshops to make a difference shows you the person Kate is. I would recommend everyone involved in healthcare experience this to make them a better person for their patients and increase their emotional intelligence. Thank you Kate”

It was the best talk of the day for me. So inspiring and so honestly delivered. Such a powerful message for all rehab professionals to take home and remember regarding the importance of expectations and also communication. I am sure I will think of you often when working with my clients in the future. And a book order will be placed shortly too. Thanks for such an inspiring session!

I first met Kate 2 years ago when she was keynote speaker at the British Association of Neuroscience Nurses conference (BANN), in Birmingham 2013.

Kate was inspirational, it was the first time I had heard Kate speak and I was so moved by the emotional outpouring of grief and loss; yet determination and strength was evident in every spoken word. Being a survivor of brain stem stroke and to come through with such determination for life, was evident and a testament to Kate’s character.

The experience of listening to Kate is to truly understand the meaning of the ‘Patient Experience’.

I needed more people to hear what Kate had to say, be mindful of the experiences and how these can shape our lives and the way we think.

At this Autumn BANN conference in Bristol, it was with real joy that Kate agreed to be my keynote speaker. As anticipated, many of the audience were left in tears with the story Kate had to tell, absorbing the narrative that has shaped Kate’s new drive to educate her audience and open our eyes to the patient and their understandings.

msd-reviewKate delivered an engaging and reflective presentation to our MSD team of 100 people. Sharing her insight and personal perspective, Kate talked eloquently about how pharmaceutical companies some can support patients, better understand and meet their needs and work to differentiate themselves in a competitive and ever-changing market. Kate shared the view that by improving the way companies digitally engage and empower patients, they can make a real difference and work in partnership towards better health outcomes.

She illustrated the top priority areas in the health service and gave some practical suggestions for pharmaceutical companies operating in primary health care settings.

Her own personal story is extraordinary, and her informal speaking style is captivating, interactive and honest. The power of her remarkable speech reminded us all why we’re passionate about what we do and why we constantly work towards the ethos of helping people be well.

Kate Allatt was an inspiration to the Mount St Mary’s Sixth Form, during her recent presentation.  Confronting profound personal tragedy with such positivity moved every audience member.   Listening to the triumph of hope, determination and resilience over catastrophe and despair was a profound experience for the group.  I can whole-heartedly recommend Kate Allatt’s story to young and old.

Working alongside Kate Allatt is an absolute privilege. Kate is a fantastic and generous story teller and she has one of the most inspiring personal stories I have ever heard! When Kate stands up and calmly shares her experience of recovery from locked in syndrome, you can hear a pin drop, everyone in the room is deeply touched by her courage and determination. What I really admire about Kate is that she is purposeful, aspirational  and has a fantastic sense of humour all wrapped up in one incredible woman.  She is on a mission to make a positive difference to people who are recovering from stroke and I am sure, as was the case with her recovery story, she will achieve more than anyone ever dared hope!

sheffield-nhsToday I attended a fantastic talk that you gave. Certainly you have had a remarkable and terribly traumatic experience with locked in syndrome, but have made an amazing recovery from this. I felt that your talk was extremely insightful, and listening to this had a number of valuable lessons particularly for clinicians in terms of understanding that they need to recognise what patients are going through and also bear in mind the consequences of their medical management, which in your case was extremely successful, and contemplate the way in which further management of patients in this context should be considered to help them return to normality.

You have had a remarkable recovery and it is credit to you that you have achieved this through determination, willpower and appliance of your abilities to achieve what I saw today. It was an extremely inspiring talk that you gave and I wish you well with promoting this message in the future.

With best wishes and kind regards
